In 1991 Grunge music went mainstream with the release of three groundbreaking albums: “Ten” by Pearl Jam, “Nevermind” by Nirvana and “Badmotorfinger” by Soundgarden.
Grunge grew out of the Seattle music scene and featured low-tuned guitars, lots of distortion and screamy vocals. The Grunge scene also had its own unique fashion sense which consisted mainly of flannel shirts, ripped jeans and beat up Doc Martens.

- C) Mookie Blaylock. The band initially took the name of the professional basketball player but later changed it to Pearl Jam after attending a Neil Young concert and being inspired by his jam session style.
- B) Kathleen Hanna. The Bikini Kill singer was friend’s with the band and one night scribbled “Kurt smells like teen spirit” on his bedroom wall. She was referring to a 90s deodorant brand.
