An Exclusive Interview with Sugar Ray!

Before these 90s icons rock out, hear from the band about their music, living the 90s, and the excitement about joining The 90s Cruise.

You know, when I look back on it, it feels like the most accidental, beautiful evolution. Lemonade and Brownies was us trying to be the loudest kids on the block… funk-metal, hip-hop, anything we could throw at the wall to see if it stuck. And then somehow, almost by cosmic accident, “Fly” comes along and changes the whole trajectory of our lives.

I’ve always said Sugar Ray is a band that follows the song. Whatever felt good, whatever made us smile in the studio, whatever felt honest, that’s what we chased. I’m proud of the journey, man. It let us stay in the game way longer than we could’ve dreamed.

It blows my mind every single day. I still hear “Every Morning” in grocery stores. That’s when you know you’ve made it… when you’re soundtracking produce aisles. But honestly, it’s humbling. The 90s were an iconic time, and to know Sugar Ray is woven into that memory for people… it’s the greatest gift you could ask for as an artist.

I love today’s musical landscape. It’s wild, and totally genre-less. Kids are making hits in their bedrooms, and the old rules don’t mean a thing anymore. If I were 19 right now, I’d be losing my mind and probably posting way too much on TikTok.

For me personally, the songs where we got to collaborate with some of our favorite artists will always hold a place in my heart. For instance, we were able to collaborate with the legend KRS-One for the song “Live & Direct” off of our album 14:59; I did a cover of “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground” with Willie Nelson for the King Of The Hill soundtrack; we got to write a song with Collie Buddz on our album Music For Cougars called “Girls Were Made To Love;” we worked with Nick Hexum from 311 on the song “Stay On” off our self-titled record. We even got to collaborate with Run-DMC on the song “Here We Go 2001” off their record Crown Royal and with the Wilson Sisters on The Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick.” It just continues to amaze me how we were able to collaborate with those incredible artists.

Oh man, everything. Put me on a boat with 90s music, 90s fans, 90s fashion, and free buffets? I mean… twist my arm.

But truly, it’s the hang. We all came up together… the bands, the fans, the whole scene. Getting to relive that is something special.

I’d love to bring back that feeling of discovery! When you’d camp out at a record store, rip open a CD, and study the liner notes like they held the secrets of the universe. That tactile magic? I miss that.

And what can stay gone? JNCO jeans, man. Look… I wore them. I lived it. I survived it. But we don’t need to repeat every chapter of history.

There’s less than a week until we set sail, so don’t miss out on the 90s adventure of a lifetime.
